County Jail - an insiders outside perspective - 2006/09/26 02:33
While I don't live in Yakima currently (I live in Seattle for the time being), I grew up here and was living here when the Jail decisions were being made. I remember the controversy well and was starkly reminded of it over the last few days as I've been driving by the fairgrounds (and "jail") many times a day.
The place is overgrowing with weeds; the razor-wire topped fence has been replaced with a nice black chain link fence. It looks decent, but very out of place. And furthermore, I was driving to park through the infield and realized just how close that thing is to the fairgrounds - it's unnerving!
What I'm getting at is that this was just a mess of an idea. Years later, where are things at? I haven't been as closely looped into local politics as I used to be. Are those responsible for these decisions being held responsible for their outcomes now? Are we moving forward on new initiatives to redeem the apparent mistake this was to embark on in the first place?
