Masset Worth the Trip!

First off, Masset Winery is one of Washington State's greatest "unknowns". It is a small boutique winery that has wines that frankly, challenge your tastes to find something bad to say about them. Located 10 minutes from Yakima in Wapato, the winery run by husband and wife team of Greg and Michaela Masset, has several whites and reds that will surely rival any of the Red Mountain or Walla Walla vintages. The Cabs are bold and bright, with just the right amount of tannins to express their individuality. A Basket Press Syrah is to die for. Gravity, not the cold press of machinery, gets this vibrant cassis and blackberry free run Syrah its own character. The Merlot brings reminisces of fine drinkable Merlot that could be from that little winery in WW (L**n*tt*). The whites begin with and end with the Margaret Alice Late Harvest Viognier. A sipping white that is effused with the pear and pineapple notes. It leaves you with the right amount of linger and the appropriate amount of wanting more. I highly recommend Masset and remember to travel lightly and always buy a bottle!
